A concert performance of excerpts from a new Irish opera based on James Joyce's masterpiece

Music by Eric Sweeney

Words by James Joyce

Yes, Ulysses is 'operable'. We haven’t changed a word so as to be true to the musicality of Joyce's language. We set out to give the audience an experience of the epic quality of the book in an original way. Eric's bold and dramatic settings complement Joyce's words beautifully. The interior monologues and the 'stream of consciousness' passages lend themselves to work as beautiful and expressive arias. He draws on many of the classical opera, Irish traditional and music hall references in the book so as to create a compelling and challenging work. Joyce’s love of opera is well documented and he regularly attended operas wherever he lived. He will be with us in spirit.

Show begins at 8pm on 15 & 16 June.

Tickets: €20/€15
