‘A Play on Ulysses’ is a unique Bloomsday event in Dublin, a fully dramatised (yes, fully dramatised) adaptation of Ulysses, compressed into 75 action filled minutes. Eighteen professional actors, plus singers, musicians and dancers, combine to provide an entertaining, comic, poignant, enlightening insight into James Joyce’s Ulysses. The play is performed ‘on-street’ at The Cross in the middle of Blackrock village. The on-street element brings an extra layer of theatricality to the event bringing drama, humour and music straight into the heart of Blackrock.
Nastaise Leddy and Iris Park collaborate to adapt, direct and produce ‘A Play on Ulysses’ at 6pm on Sunday, 16th of June 2019, creating an authentic and entertaining experience. Between them they have vast experience of adaptation, directing, writing and production for stage, radio, film and television.
The 2018 production attracted an audience of over 400, so come early and get a seat. The play is supported by DunLaoghaire Rathdown County Council, Zurich, The Blackrock Business Network, and the retailers and terrific community of Blackrock. Come early, get a seat – enjoy the Irish summer. We have a plan for adverse weather conditions, so hail, rain or shine ‘A Play on Ulysses’ will go on!
Blackrock is on the coast 6km from Dublin City Centre – great public transport links for visitors: http://blackrock.ie/
