Bloomsday at the Bailey

  • The Bailey Pub Duke Street Dublin, County Dublin Ireland (map)

The original Dublin Bloomsday in 1954 was organised by a rag-tag group of artists and intellectuals including Patrick Kavanagh, Flann O’Brien, Anthony Cronin and John Ryan, owner of the Bailey pub. The party spent the morning at the Martello Tower in Sandycove before making their way back to the Bailey, where they reportedly spent the rest of the evening - a tradition that continues to this day! The Bailey will be giving out free Bloomsday boater hats on the day (subject to availability), serving up delicious Joycean dishes and offering a very special James Joyce Cocktail at the bar. There will also be readings from Ulysses on the hour from 1pm - 4pm, each lasting around 15 minutes.
