Join us in St. Andrew’s Church, Westland Row, at 11am this Bloomsday as we celebrate our connection with Joyce and the Gaiety Theatre. Founders of the theatre, brothers Michael and John Gunn were parishioners. Within the church is a memorial plaque to Michael Gunn which you are welcome to view.
Our programme commences with performance from the “Sublime” compositions of Balfe, Mercandante, and Mozart. Next comes the “Ridiculous”, which includes music hall songs such as “The Man that Broke the Bank of Monte Carlo”, “After the Ball”, “Sweet Rosie O’Grady”, and “Seaside Girls”. Hosted Jean Monahan, Church Choir Director, and St. Andrew’s Church Historian, Elizabeth Watson, the programme includes performances from Simon Heapes (Tenor), Connie Murray (Soprano), Gillian Pepper, Rose Hogan, Carmel Heapes, and the Greenore Centre Choir. Accompaniment by St. Andrew’s Church organist, Dr. Carole O’Connor, and readings by Catherine Byrne.
This is a free event. All are welcome.
