Joyce’s Ulysses features what we’ll wager is one of the most famous breakfasts in literature, the fried pork kidney enjoyed by Leopold Bloom in the ‘Calypso’ episode of the novel. Over the years, the Bloomsday Breakfast has become one of the festival’s most established traditions, not only as a tip of the hat to Joyce’s protagonist, but also because we know you need to fuel up for a big day of celebrations. So take a leaf out of Bloom’s book and enjoy a hearty meal before setting out on your travels this Bloomsday.

We serve a traditional Irish breakfast with pork kidneys (optional, for those who aren’t into the "tang of faintly scented urine"), accompanied by music and recitation from the pages of Ulysses. And don’t forget to don your finest Edwardian wares - there will be special prizes for best dressed at each sitting.

All sittings of the James Joyce Centre’s Bloomsday Breakfast are sold out, but why not book a place for our Afternoon Teas or check out the superb breakfast offered by our neighbours at GPO Witness History, EPIC Ireland or Howth Castle.
