The Polis in Ulysses

As part of the centenary celebrations of the amalgamation of An Garda Síochána and the Dublin Metropolitan Police in 1925, The Garda Historical Society in collaboration with The James Joyce Centre is proud to present “The Polis in Ulysses,” a lecture by Senan Molony on Sunday, June 15th at 1pm in the Irishtown Garda Station.

The Dublin Metropolitan Police feature heavily in Ulysses, which appropriates the names of several infamous real-life constables caught up in the ‘Henry Flower’ scandal at the Irishtown DMP Station in 1900. Molony will discuss the scandal as well as Joyce’s depiction of law enforcement of the time, a topic of considerable intrigue and of topical consequence.

Senan Molony is the Deputy Political Editor of the Irish Independent and one of the foremost Joycean scholars in Ireland. He has written extensively about Joyce and has participated in international Joyce symposia in Ireland and abroad.

The event is free but booking is essential. For tickets, please email Paul at constablehenryflower@gmail.com.
