Bloomsday Villages across Dublin City

Community spirit is what makes the Bloomsday Festival so special for many Dubliners, who cherish the chance to celebrate their city’s most famous writer in the company of neighbours and visitors alike.

This year, Dublin City Council in conjunction with these communities have planned a stellar line-up of activities in Beggars Bush, Harold’s Cross, Merrion Square, Portobello, Rathgar, Rathmines,  Sandymount and Terenure. Have a look at the full schedule and join in the fun this Bloomsday.


Terenure 

Event organised in partnership with the Evergreen Club 

Bloomsday Tea Dance: 14 June | 2pm | The Evergreen Centre, 70 Terenure Road North, Terenure, Dublin 6W 

Don your Edwardian garb and dance along to the music of Past Times at this event for older people.


Beggars Bush

Event organised in partnership with Gráinne O’Kelly and BADRA

The Citizens’ Breakfast: 16 June | 10.30am & 3pm | Shelbourne Road, Dublin 4

Lively promenade performance with delicious breakfast bites to eat on the Shelbourne Road, around Beggars Bush and in Slattery’s pub.

There are two performances 10:30am and 3pm. Tickets €14.73.

Harold’s Cross

Ulysses Goes Wild in Harold’s Cross Park: 16 June | 5pm | Noshington Café, Harold’s Cross Park, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6

 Nature tour with RTÉ and TV3 star Éanna Ní Lamhna inspired by the ‘marriage of trees’ from the ‘Cyclops’ episode of Ulysses.

Seven Scenes from Ulysses: 16 June | 6pm | Noshington Café, Harold’s Cross Park, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 6

 Watch Ulysses come to life on the streets of Harold’s Cross in the company of characters from the book.


Merrion Square

Event organised in partnership with Merrion Square Artists Association

Ulysses Goes Wild in Merrion Square: 16 June |1pm | Defence Forces Memorial, Merrion Square, Dublin 2

Nature tour in this charming Georgian Square with RTÉ and TV3 star Éanna Ní Lamhna inspired by the ‘marriage of trees’ from the ‘Cyclops’ episode of Ulysses.


Portobello

Event organised in partnership with Portobello Residents Group

Ulysses Goes Wild along the Grand Canal: 16 June | 3pm | Portobello Harbour, Portobello, Dublin 8.

Nature tour with RTÉ and TV3 star Éanna Ní Lamhna inspired by the ‘marriage of trees’ from the ‘Cyclops’ episode of Ulysses.

Seven Scenes from Ulysses: 16 June | 4pm | Portobello Harbour, Portobello, Dublin 8.   

Portobello is immortalised in Ulysses with Leopold Bloom’s house and birthplace set on Upper Clanbrassil Street. Watch Ulysses come to life on the streets of Portobello.


Rathgar

Events organised in partnership with Rathgar Traders & Community

A Literary and Historical Tour of Rathgar: 16 June | 11am | Herzog Park, Rathgar, Dublin 6.

Join author and historian Ged Walsh for a tour around Rathgar, the birthplace of James Joyce, to learn about the area’s rich history and connections to Ulysses.


Rathmines

Event organised in partnership with Rathmines Fair in the Square

Fair in the Bloomin’ Square: 16 June | 11am- 5pm | Belgrave Square, Rathmines, Dublin 6.

Fun for all the family in the park with live music, dog show, picnic, games, yoga, art and lots more to help celebrate Bloomsday!

Seven Scenes from Ulysses: 16 June | 2pm | Mortons, Dunville Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6.

Enjoy a walk to Belgrave Square as you watch Ulysses come alive in the company of Leopold Bloom and other characters from the book.


Sandymount

Events organised in conjunction with the Iris Charles Centre and Sandymount Tidy Towns Community Association.
