Bloomsday in Cyprus

The Embassy of Ireland in Cyprus, in collaboration with Ideogramma, is proud to present the 4th Cyprus Bloomsday Festival, celebrating the life and work of the iconic Irish writer James Joyce. The event will take place on Monday, June 16th at 8pm on the rooftop of Nicosia City Hall.

This year, we are excited to collaborate with The James Joyce Centre and to welcome the internationally acclaimed tenor and actor Morgan Crowley, who will perform songs and readings from the Ulysses episode “Sirens,” alongside the award-winning Cypriot actress Niovi Charalambous.

Bios:

Morgan Crowley

Dublin-born Morgan Crowley has had a diverse career across five continents, appearing on a Grammy-winning CD, Tony Award winning musical and the stage version of an Oscar-winning film.

Morgan trained classically in music and drama and is a Masters Graduate of Trinity College Dublin. He works extensively in all media with credits worldwide including BBC’s Eastenders, Disney, The Wiggles, National Theatre/RSC, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Prometheus, Messiah, Universal Pictures & Columbia Artists.

Notable Broadway/West-End/international theatre leading roles include Phantom of the Opera, Hairspray, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Cirque du Soleil, Riverdance, Scrooge, Playboy of the Western World and the world premiere of James Joyce’s “The Dead” at Ireland’s National Theatre, the Abbey.

Niovi Charalambous

Niovi Charalambous is a Cypriot actor born in Nicosia. She graduated with honours from the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece (1999-2002). She has won many awards including the THOC (Cyprus Theatre Organisation) Award for Female Performance for the role of Violet in the 2014-2015 production “One Day When We Were Young” by Nick Payne, directed by Marions Mettis, and for Best Female Perfomance at the Drsma Film Festival in 2022 for the short film “Daphne” directed by Tonia Mishali.

She has played important roles in significant works of Ancient Drama as well as in plays by Shakespeare, Chekhov, Trinberg, Brecht, Williams, Molière, Marivo, Beckett, Stringberg, T. Williams, Bost, L. Anagnostakis and many other classical and contemporary writers.

She has participated in theatre festivals in New York, Italy and Germany, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the Delphi Festival, the 9th Theatrical Olympiad in Toga, Japan and the Wutzhen Festival in China, among others. Additionally she has participated in over 15 television productions in Greece and Cyprus.

The event is free but booking is essential.
