Ulysses in Nighttown is a stage adaptation of the “Circe” episode of Ulysses. It was created in 1958 by Marjorie Barkentin in heavy consultation with members of the James Joyce Society. The original production starred Zero Mostel, Burgess Meredith, Carroll O’Connor, and Anne Meara. The 1974 Broadway revival starred Mostel again, plus Finnula Flanagan and Tommy Lee Jones. We mark the legacy of Joyce adaptations in New York by
commissioning Elevator Repair Service (who recently adapted Ulysses for the theater) to perform a reading of the play.
