Bloomsday in Prague

The Society of Kamil Lhoták´s Friends the honour to invite you for the celebration of Bloomsday in Prague, with an announcement of an art competition based on Ulysses, a reading the 13th chapter of the novel, and an exhibition of illustrations by Kamil Lhoták to be held on Tuesday, 16th June 2026 at 4pm in the Cafe Time Music – Czech Muzeum of Music.

Kamil Lhoták is namely the only Czech painter who had strong ties with Ireland, which he expressed in his work even though he never visited this country. Besides this collection of Ulysses illustrations, which he created in 1952 during the communist regime that persecuted him by banning his art exhibitions, he is famous also with his series of paintings and graphics called “Green Ireland.” These paintings are seldom offered in local auctions and if any of them appear, they might reach the price of several hundred thousands euros.

Lhoták created 69 illustations based on Ulysses that will be on display. The exhibition is under the auspices of the painter´s son, Kamil Lhoták Jr. The exhibition will be open 10am-6pm. Free entry, basic catalog of exhibition is gratis.
