Bloomsday in San Francisco, California

Annual Bloomsday Tea at the Mechanics’ Institute

Mechanics’ Institute once again joins the annual world-wide celebration of James Joyce’s epic novel ULYSSES with a community gathering.

Eat, Read, Drink and Walk on the Wild Side of Dublin! The event begins with a special Bloomsday tea with lively Irish music and song. The afternoon includes dramatic readings from James Joyce’s Ulysses by actors John Ilyin, Esther Mulligan, Laura Sheppard and Simon Winheld accompanied by Darcy Nolan on fiddle. Community readings will also be an important part of our program — so, bring your book and be ready to read and share your favorite short passages! Bloomsday attire is welcome!

Tickets include a complimentary scone and cup of tea. A full cash bar – with Guinness and shots of Irish whiskey – will be available!

$20 for Members, $25 for Non-Members

3pm at the Mechanics’ Institue, 57 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94104

Bloomsday 2026: Ulysses Meets Sgt. Pepper at the United Irish Cultural Center

Bloomsday 2026 will feature a unique perspective on James Joyce’s classic Ulysses using rock music.

From the creators: “Bloomsday 2026 will feature a unique perspective on James Joyce’s classic Ulysses using rock music and AI (artificial intelligence). Visual images and voices of characters from 1904 Dublin were created and parallels drawn to the Sgt. Pepper album. Ulysses is re-imagined in a unique way such that Ulysses comes alive.”

The Dowling Library at the UICC is proud to host this dynamic look at James Joyce’s classic tale. This is what we mean by “Bloomsday in Music and Prose”
