Bloomsday in Tokyo
The Embassy of Ireland in Tokyo is delighted to announce the much-anticipated 2nd Annual Irish Film Festival in Tokyo, taking place from 31 May to 13 June 2024, at the prestigious Yebisu Garden Cinema. Building on the remarkable success of last year’s inaugural event, the 2024 festival promises to captivate audiences with a curated selection of eight outstanding Irish films.
The film festival will feature a special Bloomsday celebration on June 13th at 7pm to showcase how Bloomsday is celebrated in Ireland and to honour the legacy of James Joyce and his seminal work, Ulysses (1922). The event will start with a digitally remastered version of the classic film The Dead (1987) by John Huston, based on the short story from Dubliners. The screening will be followed by dramatic readings from Ulysses by professional actors in English and Japanese. Audience members are invited to attend in Bloomsday costume.
