Bloomsday in Trieste
James Joyce lived in Trieste from 1904 to 1915. Although Dublin is most associated with Joyce, it is in Trieste where Joyce began his epic work. He would carry the Adriatic city with him throughout his life and it reverberates throughout his work. It is sometimes dubbed “Joyce’s Second City.”
To celebrate Bloomsday, the Library Service of the Municipality of Trieste, together with the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Trieste, in partnership with the Joyce Museum of Trieste and the Trieste Joyce School with the collaboration of the Cultural Association Day/Dreaming Project, the School of Music 55 and the contribution of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region present the Bloomsday Festival 2024 in Trieste on June 14-16.
The festival has more than 25 events throughout Trieste. They are free to the pubic (with the exception of the food and wine events). For more information and the full programme, visit the Joyce Museum of Trieste’s website at https://museojoycetrieste.it/bloomsday/bloomsday-2024/.
