Bloomsday in Vienna

Every year on June 16, Bloomsday commemorates the great Irish writer James Joyce and his world-famous work Ulysses, featuring the main character Leopold Bloom. It symbolizes the importance of literature, culture, and cross-border exchange.

Once again this year, Michael Ludwig supported the “Bloomsday and Beyond” initiative organized by the Irish Embassy in Vienna. Numerous books by Irish authors are being distributed in open bookcases, schools, and universities, inviting people to discover the diversity of Irish literature.

It’s no coincidence that Ireland is called the “Island of Writers.” From James Joyce and Oscar Wilde to contemporary authors, Irish literature has been shaping people far beyond the country’s borders for generations.

Many thanks to the Irish Embassy for this wonderful initiative and its commitment to literature and culture!
