Bloomsday Coffee Painting Art

Join us for a special edition of Bewley’s Cafe Presents with Paint by the Pints, a coffee painting evening in celebration of Bloomsday.

On Bloomsday, Tuesday, 16th June at 6.30pm, spend the evening in the iconic surroundings of Bewley’s Cafe as we honour the literary greats who once spent time there. Using coffee grinds and watercolour postcards, guests will create their own artwork inspired by the writers, stories, and atmosphere of this historic cafe.

Your ticket includes all materials, artist facilitation 1 complimentary drink on arrival. Come along for a relaxed and creative evening of painting and Bloomsday inspiration. If only the walls could talk.

Silk Worm Families Drop-in: Bloomsday Adventure with Ellie Treasaigh NicAodh

Join Ellie Treasaigh NicAodh for a fun and crafty event for all the family this Bloomsday Festival on Saturday, 13th June at 11am at Chester Beatty.

James Joyce’s Ulysses is one of Ireland’s most important works of literature. Set right here, in the heart of Dublin, it describes one day in the city from the perspectives of many Dubliners. More than one hundred years later, many of the streets and sights described in the novel are still around today – see if you can spot them! Join this relaxed family session, and decorate your own 1900’s map of Dublin, highlighting the places you frequent and activities you take part in, as though you and your family are walking through the novel yourselves!

The event is free, no booking required. Limited to 15 participants at one time.

Please note: children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

A Blooming Great Day: Reading and Workshop with Úna Woods

It seems like just another ordinary day for Rosie and her grandad. But as soon as they step outside, they find themselves on a blooming great adventure around Dublin on the 16th of June, 1904!

Join us at the James Joyce Centre on Sunday, 14th June at 11am for a children’s event of fun, mischief, and Joyce! Author and illustrator Úna Woods will read from her new children’s book A Blooming Great Day (The O’Brien Press) and lead a drawing workshop. The children will draw scenes from the book and design their own hats! This is a great way for children to be introduced to Joyce and to partake in Dublin’s great literary tradition.

Tickets are €10 with special 2-for-1 sale.

Úna Woods is a children’s book illustrator and author who lives in Dublin with her husband and two children and their ginger cat. Her previous books include Have You Seen the Dublin Vampire? and A Spooktacular Place to Be, both published by The O’Brien Press. Úna loves working with bright colours and patterns. She also loves reading and running.

Work Out Your Brain with Finnegans Wake

Get ready to twist your brain and dive into the world of Finnegans Wake this Bloomsday!

“Work Out Your Brain with Finnegans Wake” is a public reading and writing performance that invites you to engage the right side of your brain in a fun and supportive setting. Most of us tend to write with one hand, strengthening neural pathways in the left hemisphere.

This event playfully encourages you to respond to James Joyce’s dreamlike book Finnegans Wake with your non-dominant hand, awakening the right hemisphere. Joyce was said to have departed from traditional English when he wrote Finnegans Wake, which is what makes this event especially comfortable for those with dyslexia or dyspraxia, as there are no rules about how to read or write.

Led by visual artist Vicki Davis, the event is 90 minutes long, but feel free to come and go from the room as you please.

Vicki Davis is a visual artist based in Cork. She graduated from the Technological University Dublin on Sherkin Island in West Cork 2020. Her practice is multidisciplinary spanning performance art, film, experimental sound and sculptural installation. She enjoys blurring the genres and describes her films as filmed performance art – edited.
